INNOVATIVE LINEN ART EXHIBTION FEATURES EMBEDDED SOUND -

NEW AND EXCLUSIVELY AT THE LINEN HALL IN AUGUST

A unique art exhibition visually celebrating flax and linen entitled Flax Field is taking place at the Linen Hall Library in August. Master printmaker Josephine McCormick has created a series of artwork some of which are embedded with the sound of flax being woven via QR codes. Not only can the viewer admire the stunning selection of etchings and cyanotypes, but one can also appreciate the hypnotic, rhythmic sound of the linen being woven. Flax Field is new and exclusive at the Linen Hall Library until 31 August.

The work on show is a mixture of etchings and cyanotypes, which are created using specialised etching paper where sunlight develops the image on paper resulting in a beautiful blue colour.

Josephine McCormick says: “I have always been inspired by linen and flax as the fabric of Ireland. Every work I have created in Flax Field is unique. The embedding of QR codes which allows the viewer to experience the ‘sound’ of the work is a technique developed exclusively by me.”

Josephine McCormick is a master printmaker who works from her studio in Belfast. Her work has represented Northern Ireland at international exhibitions in Luxembourg, Japan, Munich and Melbourne and is in private collections in America, Japan, Germany and France.

Further work by the artist can be viewed on her website: www.josephinemccormick.com.
