Brian McGilloway is one of the most celebrated crime fiction authors of our time. Hailing from Derry, McGilloway is renowned for his Inspector Benedict Devlin and DS Lucy Black series, which have garnered critical acclaim and reached the New York Times bestseller list.

David Torrans is the owner of the iconic No Alibis, Northern Ireland’s only specialist crime bookstore and a cherished independent bookseller. Join them for an exclusive conversation as we honour Brian McGilloway, who has generously donated his writing archive to The Linen Hall. Items from the archive will be available to view for the first time on the night.

Brian McGilloway
Brian McGilloway has been publishing novels since 2007. He is the author of twelve books, including the Inspector Ben Devlin novels –Borderlands, Gallows Lane, Bleed a River Deep, The Rising, The Nameless Dead, and Blood Ties – and the DS Lucy Black series, which includes the New York Times bestselling Little Girl Lost, Hurt, Preserve the Dead, and Bad Blood. His most recent novel, The Empty Room, was published in 2022 and became an instant Sunday Times bestseller while his previous standalone, The Last Crossing, won an unprecedented Highly Commended in Theakston’s Old Peculier Crime Novel of the Year 2021. Brian also won BBC Northern Ireland’s Tony Doyle Award for his screenplay, Little Emperors.

David Torrans
David Torrans is a notable figure in the literary world as the proud owner of No Alibis, Ireland’s only specialist crime bookstore. With a passion for books and a commitment to promoting the written word, David has successfully nurtured No Alibis into an iconic and independent establishment.

Located within the Queen’s Quarter, No Alibis, for over 25 years it’s enchanting visitors with its vast collection of literature. As a community bookshop, No Alibis caters to diverse interests, offering an extensive range of genres, with a particular focus on children’s books, Irish literature, history, politics, the humanities, and, of course, mystery fiction.
