Award winning photographer Luis McCullagh is to exhibit a collection of photographs in Belfast’s Linen Hall Library. This fascinating photographic exhibition focuses on the daily life of the pupils and staff of Stranmillis Primary School. The exhibition records not just the activities of the staff and children, but the atmosphere and emotions of school life and indeed childhood itself.
The Linen Hall Library is delighted to welcome this unique exhibition, which is the first in a series entitled ‘The Northern Family’. This is an impressive attempt to record all aspects of life as lived by all sections of Northern Irish society. Future subjects will include sport, religion, work, play and community life.
Louis McCullagh studied at Queen’s University and was very successful in the computer and printing industries before turning to full time photography. Through his company RespectPhotography, Louis set a new record winning 13 awards at the British Professional Photography Awards 2006 for Portraiture, Travel, and Fine Art. Louis is Northern Ireland Photographer of the year 2005/6. Businesses or organisations who wish to help with the 'Northern Family' series are invited to contact Louis (www.respectphotography.com).
The Northern Family – Part One: School, is being exhibited in the outstanding Vertical Gallery of the Linen Hall Library, Donegall Square North, from 2nd August until the end of the month. The exhibition is free and open to the public from 9.30-5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9.30-1pm on Saturday.
